Broughton Beach ...
Broughton Beach is 1.3 miles long and is located on the Oregon side of the Columbia River approximately at River Mile (RM) 110, on the north side of the Portland International Airport. A levee and Portland's Marine Drive separate the two. Across the Columbia River on the Washington side is Wintler Park, Tidewater Cove, and Lieser Point.

Early Broughton Beach ...
Broughton Beach (as well as Broughton Bluff upstream) was named after British Lieutenant William R. Broughton, who, as part of the Captain George Vancouver expedition in 1792, was the first European to sail up the Columbia River. Broughton turned around just upstream of Broughton Beach.

An early name for Broughton Beach was "Diddlers Beach". The U.S. Board of Geographic Names made "Broughton Beach" official in 1974.
