"American Empress" ...
(formerly "Empress of the North") ...
The 360-foot long 223-passenger four-deck paddleboat was built in 2002 and debuted as the "Empress of the North" in 2003. Between 2003 and 2008 the boat cruised between the Columbia River and Alaska's Inside Passage.

"Formerly the Empress of the North, the opulent white riverboat with bright red stern wheel plied the waters of the Columbia and Alaska from 2003-08. When the company that owned it went bankrupt, the boat reverted to U.S. government control due to a loan that had helped fund its construction on Washington’s Whidbey Island. ... In its former life as the Empress of the North, the riverboat famously ran aground in the Columbia off Washougal, Wash., in 2006 ..." [Terry Richard, "OregonLive.com" website, April 5, 2014, seen November 2017]

In 2013 the "Empress of the North" was bought by the American Queen Steamship Compnay, renamed "American Empress" in 2014, and began service on the Columbia and Snake Rivers.
