Fowler Lake ...
Fowler Lake is located on the Carty Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. The lake is the southwestern water pool located in the center of the Carty Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Channels connect it to Lancaster Lake. Four of the seven Ridgefield Basalt Quarries are located around Fowler Lake. The name "Fowler Lake" does not appear in the U.S. Geological Survey's Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).

Early Fowler Lake ...
The 1854 cadastral survey (tax survey) map shows the home of F.A. Fowler being located in the lower half of the NE quarter of Township 11, near the junction of Lake River and Lewis River with the Columbia River. The 1863 cadastral survey shows the property of F.A. Fowler, 638.16 acres, Claim No.37.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management's General Land Office (GLO) Records database (2011), shows Francis A. Fowler and Mary L. Fowler were granted title to 638.16 acres of T4N R1W, Sections 11, 12, and 14, on February 25, 1864 (1850 Oregon-Donation Act).

Basalt Cobblestone Quarries ...
In 1981 seven historic basalt quarry sites on the Carty Unit of the Ridgefield Refuge were listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as the "Basalt Cobblestone Quarries District". Four of these quarries were located around Fowler Lake.

  1. "Fowler Lake South" quarry, located on the south bank of Fowler Lake, lat/long of quarry obtained in field via Garmin, 45°50'10.4"N, 122°45'43.8"W.

  2. "Fowler Lake West" quarry, located on the west bank of Fowler Lake at approximate lat/long (determined off map) 45°50'27"N, 122°45'56"W.

  3. "Fowler Lake Island" quarry, located on the western shore of the island in the center of Fowler Lake, at approximate lat/long (determined off map) 45°50'24"N, 122°45'50"W.

  4. "Fowler Lake Channel" quarry and associated rock haul road, located on the northwestern bank of the northeast channel entering Fowler Lake, at approximate lat/long (determined off map) 45°50'30"N, 122°45'34"W.
