Chinook Landing ...
Chinook Landing is located on the Oregon side of the Columbia River at River Mile (RM) 118.5. Across the Columbia from Chinook Landing is the lower end of Lady Island, Washington while Camas, Washington is located slightly upstream. On the Oregon side of the Columbia is the Sandy River, located two miles to the east, and inland to the south is the Oregon community of Troutdale and nearby Blue Lake and Blue Lake Regional Park. In the middle of the Columbia just below Chinook Landing is McGuire Island, the upper end of the Government Island Complex.

"Ne-cha-co-lee" Village ...
The Chinook Landing and Blue Lake areas were once the location of an Indian village which was seen but not visited by Lewis and Clark.

"... at 8 miles passed a village on the South side     at this place my Pilot informed me he resided and that the name of his tribe is Ne-cha-co-lee, this village is back or to the South of Dimond island, and as we passed on the North Side of the island both decending & assending did not See or know of this Village. I proceeded on without landing at this village ..." [Clark, April 2, 1806]

"Dimond island" the Captains refer to is today's Government Island.
