Tufted Duck:
The Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula), an unusual visitor to the Pacific Northwest, is a Eurasian member of a genus of diving ducks which includes the Greater and Lesser Scaups, and the Ring-necked Duck. The Tufted Duck breeds in the higher latitudes from Iceland east to Siberia, and he winters farther south in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Occasionally a few Tufted Ducks reach North America during the fall migration and spend the winter on the Atlantic or Pacific coasts, often found as single birds associating with flocks of Scaups or Ring-necked ducks.
